Two bears, one small and one large, which our ancestors drew and engraved in black silhouette in a niche in the Ekain cave in the Magdalenian period, more than 15,000 years ago, are the reference and logo of this innovative and creative space, located in the heart of the Old Part of San Sebastian at 4 Iñigo Street.
The Ekain Arte Lanak Gallery opened its doors in San Sebastian in 1999, founded by Juan Cruz Unzurrunzaga, this being his third gallery project in the city. Currently the director is his niece, Rita Unzurrunzaga. The gallery specializes in Basque art. We have works by renowned artists such as Amable Arias, Eduardo Chillida, Juan Luis Goenaga, Rafael Ruiz Balerdi, and Jose Luis Zumeta. Throughout the last few years more artists have joined the gallery, such as Clara Gangutia and Mari Paz Jimenez, among others.
The Gallery advises in the creation of private and institutional collections. In addition to the exhibitions that are held regularly, the gallery has a large collection of works by established artists of the twentieth and twenty-first century.
Ekain Arte Lanak has in 120 square meters, with three exhibition spaces; Exhibition Hall, Guest Artist Wall and the Gallery Fund.
Gallery Fund
The Gallery Fund is composed of works of Sculpture, Graphics, Painting andPhotography, represented mainly by local sculptors and painters. Our gallery collection is Ekain's great treasure. Most of the already consecrated Basque artists of this century recognized in the art world. We work to make their works available to the customer.
Exhibition Hall
In the Exhibition Hall are rotating samples of different artists. The art gallery Ekain Arte Lanak turns to new collectors presenting great names of art at affordable prices.
Our exhibitions change frequently. In doing so, we show the art that our artists are currently creating, inviting society and our customers to these exhibitions. We believe in the idea that these exhibitions bring value to society and we put all the care and attention to detail to make each one of them unique.

Since January 1999, when we began our journey, Ekain has hosted multiple exhibitions that have brought together great artists: Chillida, Oteiza, Balerdi, Zumeta, Tapies, Manolo Valdes, Vicente Ameztoy, Koldobika Jauregi, Cristina Iglesias, and many more.

Rita Unzurrunzaga joined Ekain Arte Lanak in 2005 and in 2009 took over as director of the gallery.
