The Ekain Art Gallery presents the pictorial work of Marta Marugán, artist born in San Sebastian in 1964. She work stands out for its abstract approach, incorporating figurative elements that create new realities and imaginary places.
She is a Basque artist who lives and works in her house-studio in the historic centre of Barcelona. She studied fine arts in Bilbao, graphics in Barcelona, which is where she came back to live after working in the publication field in Paris. Although her work covers a large number of typologies, techniques and processes, she currently dedicates herself to painting, producing artworks that reveal her extensive training and experience.
Under the title A PLACE, is exhibited a new series consisting of twenty canvases and a drawing on paper. Marugán begins her paintings with an acrylic painting session, which acts as the central axis of the work, similar to oriental calligraphic painting.
The initial stage of the creation process is fast and monochromatic, establishing the composition and guiding the subsequent sessions. Then, she continues with a slower and more reflective oil painting, allowing a deeper development of the work.
