BIOGRAPHY

Born in Urretxu, Gipuzkoa, in 1980, María Aztiria began her artistic career at an early age. She is a contemporary Basque painter whose work is rooted in geometric abstraction and visual balance.

Her artistic training began at the age of eight in the studio of painter Félix Vaqueriza, where she began to develop her sensitivity for color — an early influence that remains central to her pictorial language.

Later, her interest in aesthetics and visual structure led her to study Graphic Design at the Escuela Superior de Elisava in Barcelona, a key phase that marked the conceptual basis of her work. This background strongly informs her approach to composition, geometry and spatial order in painting.

Over the years, Maria has masterfully merged design and art, creating a visual language that combines geometry, balance and emotion. Her work is developed within geometric abstraction, reflecting obvious influences of Bauhaus, art deco and minimalism, while exploring rhythm, balance and chromatic relationships.
