Berta Jayo

Berta Jayo was born in Santander in 1971. She graduated in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country 1991-1996 and has a Postgraduate and Master's degree from the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London; 2000-2003 and continued her training at the ISCP in New York (International Studio and Curatorial Program.) 2004-2005.

Her works have been shown in many countries in exhibitions such as: “Esquisite Doll Kit”, Mexico, IV New Media Festival, Hardcore Contemporary Space, Miami, ‘Regreen Arts’ Void+, Tokyo, ‘Women Alone’, Berlin International Video Festival, ELLAS, itinerant Madrid, Sala Robayera, ‘En Cuerpo y Alma Mujeres y Artistas de los siglos XX y XXI’ together with Marina Abramović or Esther Ferrer, in Sala Kubo San Sebastian, as well as in public interventions in areas of a given city, in fairs such as ARCO, Frieze London, Pulse NY, Art Basel Switzerland, 57th Venice Biennale, 14 Documenta Kassel or in Museums such as The Chill Concept Miami, Bronx Museum NY, CAC Malaga, MAS, Gugenheim Bilbao, Tate Modern, Reina Sofia.

The Santander-born artist is considered a multidisciplinary conceptual artist whose line is marked by codes of free and surprising character. In her works she shows an intelligent and innovative art. Her work is characterized by an innovative vision that defies stereotypes, using different media such as painting, photography and performance art.
