Biography and Works of Juan Luis Goenaga

He is a Basque painter of style between expressionist and materic. He exhibited for the first time in 1971, in a group show in Paris. His first singles took place in Durango in 1973, at the San Telmo Museum in San Sebastian and various Basque galleries.
Among its individuals, they can be noted: Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao (1978), three in the Museum of San Telmo (1979, 1981 and 1986), Windsor Gallery of Bilbao (1981, 1984 and 1990), Paris (1985), New York (1987), Bayonne (1999)…
Their presence in collective exhibitions is even greater: Prague (1978), Pontevedra (1983), Cologne (1984), Zaragoza (1986), an itinerant in USA USA. (1998-2001), Biarritz... Deserve special mention: the one of Torre Luzea in Zarauz (1984), where he exhibits with Balerdi and Zumeta, and the collective The modernism in the Bonnat Museum of Bayonne (1985).
The art of Goenaga he is recurrently inclined to ethnographic themes, from cave painting, Basque mythology, and landscape. Inspired by the local orography and climate, Goenaga he opts for earthy, stony and dark colors, although sometimes he surprises with vivid flashes: red, green, yellow.
